UNC Basketball: Tar Heels not ranked in coaches poll – Tar Heels Wire

As the UNC basketball program rides a four-game win streak into a tough month of February, Hubert Davis’ team is starting to find its stride.

The Tar Heels will begin this month by hosting Pitt on Wednesday and then meeting rival Duke for the first of two meetings this Saturday. It’s not an easy week but if UNC can get out of it at 2-0, they will move to 9-3 in conference play and set themselves up in a position for a double bye.

But before the week starts, UNC will enter it unranked in the latest USA Today Sports Coaches Poll.  The poll was released on Monday and doesn’t feature UNC once again.

Instead, the Tar Heels received votes in the poll.

UNC received 16 total votes which was behind San Diego State (51), Charleston (45), Duke (38), NC State (33), Creighton (26), Rutgers (24), and Texas A&M (21).

The good news for UNC is that this week provides a big opportunity not only for the NCAA Tournament resume but to get ranked as well. Getting two wins will certainly move them into the rankings going into that second week of February.
