Sharing the Load of Difficult Classes in a Secondary School

At the beginning of my career as a teacher, it was quite common for the newly graduated teacher to be given more difficult classes to teach to supposedly prove themselves worth of better classes. The problem was the old established teacher, good or indifferent, kept being allocated the better classes. Late in my career when I was appointed as a head of department; I found this unfairness was rampant in my new school. So I felt I needed to change that system there and then and develop a procedure that was fair to all my staff and looked to develop each one of them. So I determined to make the allocation of classes a fairer process.
