Tow Truck Driver Shoots Business Owner in ‘Heated’ Dispute in SW Miami-Dade: Police – NBC 6 South Florida

A tow truck driver shot a business owner after a heated dispute Friday in southwest Miami-Dade, police said.

The shooting happened in the 12800 block of SW 122nd Avenue, in front of Ultimate Auto Werks body shop.

Police said the business owner — who witnesses said is the owner of the body shop — confronted the tow truck driver about moving his truck.

A man was working nearby, washing cars, when he heard three gunshots.

“It was I think it was due to the tow truck blocking the entrance. And I guess the guy wanted him to move,” said the man, who asked to be only called Ian. “And the guy was, I guess, being hardheaded. He didn’t want to move. And then that’s when they started getting loud and yeah, but that’s what I’ve been told.”

Police said the fight turned physical, and then escalated to gunfire.

“It’s just surprising because the fact that it all could have been avoided,” Ian said.

The victim was rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center and was in stable condition.

“This area isn’t really known for just random shootings like that,” Ian said.

The tow truck appeared to belong to a company called Excalibur Towing. An attorney representing the company told NBC 6 by phone the company has no comment.

Officials did not identify the victim or shooter.
