The Condado Ocean Club Review – Town & Country

You may have read somewhere that Puerto Rico is the new Palm Beach for the cryptocurrency world, especially the tony enclave of Dorado. But there’s so much more to explore beyond the confines of the Ritz-Carlton Reserve on the island of enchantment. The historic capital of San Juan alone is chock-full of hidden gems like the restaurants La Casita Blanca and La Alcapurria Quemá, and about an hour outside of the city, there’s an incredible spot called Casa Bavaria that serves Boricua and German food. And if you’ve visited the Whitney Museum’s sensational exhibit, “No existe un mundo poshuracán,” you know there’s a major art scene out of San Juan, too—anchored by galleries like Embajada and Walter Otero—that’s just now receiving the attention it deserves. The city boasts a handful of terrific legacy properties, but an upstart on the scene turned up two years ago with the Condado Ocean Club. Here, general manager Carlo Chávez shares why the hotel resonates with young travelers, the property’s strategic location, and the fastest way to “retox” in Puerto Rico.

The Atlantic Ocean Terrace offers breathtaking views of the water. The 325-square-foot room boasts a king-sized bed, sitting area, desk and contemporary bathroom, in addition to a 282-square-foot furnished terrace, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor space, with panoramic views and comfortable lounges for entertaining or relaxation. What makes this room so special is its prime 3rd floor location overlooking the ocean waves, as well as being the largest room on site. As an extension of Condado Ocean Club, this premier room represents a true Condado experience in San Juan’s chicest adult-only boutique hotel; travelers that book this room know they will enjoy both entertainment and a quiet sanctuary.

What is the starting rate for the room, and what kind of packages can guests build around it?

The typical starting rate for the Atlantic Ocean Terrace is $525 per night, excluding taxes and fees. Condado Ocean Club boasts various packages designed to enhance the traveler experience, from a winter escape package to breakfast and bubbles.

What is the property’s history, and what is one feature first-time visitors will find surprising?

Condado Ocean Club opened in November 2020 as the only adults-only hotel located ocean front in San Juan. The property is neighbored by La Concha Resort and Condado Vanderbilt, the three of which comprise The Condado Collection, San Juan’s innovative hospitality collection. An oceanfront enclave, the hotel boasts modern accommodations with floor to ceiling windows, an iconic infinity pool overlooking the ocean, a signature indoor-outdoor oceanfront restaurant, Social, playful beachside dining at Sandbox, and a new coffee and juice bar, Detox. First time visitors will be delighted by the property’s ocean-inspired nature, from the views, serene design details, and breezy atmosphere.

Are there any other special experiences guests should ask for when they arrive?

Guests should ask about Condado Ocean Club’s lineup of rotating poolside DJs. Each weekend, guests can mingle at the pool deck while sipping cocktails and enjoying live sets from local DJs or artists.

What sights, shops, and restaurants near the Condado Ocean Club and in San Juan should visitors check out this year?

Directly across from our location, the Laguna de Condado, is perfect for kayaking or paddle-boarding, both of which you can do by day or night. There are many shops within walking distance on Ashford Avenue, but we love to recommend Wild Side Boutique located right in our lobby. Likewise, there are several eateries on the strip, ranging from casual to fine dining. Sandbox is our ocean front beach bar, just steps next door. We offer a great selection of tapas and cocktails.

What’s in store for 2023?

We are excited to share the launch of our newest food and beverage concept, Detox, which opened in January and serves healthy grab-and-go breakfast items alongside Puerto Rico’s finest specialty coffee, fresh custom pressed juices and detox shots, as well as spiked morning java or juice for guests looking to “retox.”
