Potter County, Pennsylvania (WETM) – Team USA fencing coach Anthony “Buckie” Leach died in a motorcycle accident in Potter County, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

At around 6:35 pm on August 14, Reach was moving east on Route 6 of Pike Township when he struck a deer, according to state police accident reports. Reach was kicked out of the 2021 Ducati Supersport and was fatally injured.

State police say Reach was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Reach, who was inducted into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame in 2013, “is praised for building the success of the American women’s foil team for nearly 30 years.”

Reach led Team USA in four Olympics and led the team to fourth place in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Under Reach’s guidance, the US Women’s Foil Team has won three consecutive medals at the Senior World Championships, including the 2018 Gold Medal, the 2017 Silver Medal and the 2018 Bronze Medal.

Reach joined the coaching staff at the University of Notre Dame in the 2016-17 season, and the team won 12 NCAA medals and 3 team titles.
