Seahawks vs. Steelers live updates: Sunday Night Football score, news, stats, highlights and more

The Seahawks visit the Steelers in a matchup of 2-3 teams at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.

Seattle will be without quarterback Russell Wilson, who went on IR this week after surgery on his throwing hand (though he’s in the building, as seen below). Geno Smith becomes the first person other than Wilson to start at QB for the Seahawks since Seattle picked Wilson in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Seattle got handled in the second half of its last game, a home loss to the Rams, while the Steelers are coming off a confidence-boosting win against the Broncos.

Geno Smith’s composure

Geno Smith came up big on that drive. He was composed and made timely throws to get his team in position to tie the game. Overtime here we come!

Russell Wilson called the coin toss

And the Seahawks win. They’ll receive.

I briefly thought Wilson, who picked up the coin, was going to keep it. I would. Souvenir! But he tossed it back to the referee before heading back to the sideline.

Jason Myers hits a 43-yard FG! 20-20 and we’re going to OT!

That was fun. Off to overtime we go!

3 seconds left on the clock: ruling

Geno Smith has to spike the ball (officially) and Seattle is going to try a FG to send us to overtime. So now there are 2 seconds left.

Holy crap this is chaos

DK Metcalf made a great catch right by the sideline with 15 seconds left. He then fumbled the ball, it was recovered, the Seahawks got the ball to spike it and it looks like they got things set up and spiked with one second left on the clock.

They’re in all kinds of reviews right now.

Chris Boswell 52-yard FG is good — Steelers lead, 20-17

An OPI call against Chase Claypool pushed the Steelers out of FG range, then the Steelers get some of the yards back and Chris Boswell is attempting a 52-yard FG…. and he nails it. Steelers re-take the lead, 20-17. Geno Smith has 90 seconds of clock to get the Seahawks the win (or go for a tie)

I don’t want to make this about the wave, but

This is a fantastic picture that captures the moment and ridiculousness of doing the wave while a player is down with a very serious injury

Steelers are telling their own fans to stop doing the wave

So dumb

Seattle guy is on the ground not moving and fans are doing the wave. Steelers players are telling them to stop.

Darrell Taylor is down and being stabilized

He’s being attended to like he may have some kind of neck injury; they’re bringing him off on a board and holding his head in place, and there’s a solemn tone from the booth — all the Steelers and Seahawks are off the sidelines in a circle around him. He was sandwiched between a couple players and went down awkwardly.

If there’s any good news here, it’s that Taylor was moving his legs while being tended to early on

Tuck rule

Tuck rule is dead and gone but how many folks are still seething about this?

This might be a Roethlisberger fumble

The call on the field was an incomplete pass, but the officiating expert in the NBC booth, Terry McAulay, corrected the call and said that if the nose of the ball is pointed down, it’s a fumble. They’re in commercial now as the refs review it

Najee Harris just pulled himself out… I think

It looks like Harris waved to the sideline and limped off the field a little after getting hit by Quandre Diggs around his knee as Harris leapt for a first down. Kalen Ballage took the next carry. Updates coming if he’s hurt. If he’s fine… why waste a post, right?

We have a tie game, 17-17!

After Geno Smith got sacked on 3rd and 3, Jason Myers hits a 40-yard field goal to tie the game, which seemed like an impossiblity at the half. But here we are: 17-17 and some fireworks!

“Steelers are getting bullied”

Two tight ends and running directly at the Steelers’ fastest linebacker in Devin Bush has changed the complexion of this game. Steelers are getting bullied. Rare to see the Steelers get absolutely washed in the trenches.

Breaking down that Seahawks TD drive a little more

The Seahawks have found an outstanding balance of run and pass. They’re down blocking and washing the Steelers defensive front. The Steelers went to a heavier box which allowed Geno Smith to hit Gerald Everett off play-action. The run game also set the stage for Smith’s play-action TD pass to tight end Will Dissly.

Geno Smith to Will Dissly for a TD! 17-14, Steelers

Geno Smith found Will Dissly for a one-yard touchdown to pull Seattle within 3; the score is now 17-14. The Seahawks marched down the field with some play action and shotgun this time, after establishing the run in the previous drive.

Geno Smith is now 12-for-18 for 128 yards and a touchdown. Gerald Everett leads Seattle receivers with 40 receiving yards off three targets. He almost willed his way to a touchdown two plays before Dissly scored but was brought down on the 3.

Third downs

Despite their deficiencies, the Seahawks’ defense came into this matchup ranked 12th in the NFL in third-down defense. So far, the Steelers have converted five out of 10 third-downs. They’re going to have to do a better job of getting the Steelers’ offense off the field if they want to climb back into this game.
