Roof collapses as crews battle a three-alarm fire at a Miami Gardens apartment building – AOL

Fire engulfed numerous units at a two-story apartment building in a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood Saturday morning.

More than 45 fire rescue units responded to a three-alarm blaze reported around 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Northwest 177th Street in Miami Gardens.

By noon, crews were still dousing the building. At least one part of the building’s roof on the north side of the large complex had collapsed.

Several apartments along the roof appeared destroyed. Flames were visible in the windows of numerous units. Residents have spilled onto the streets.

Miami-Dade fire officials tweeted at noon that firefighters have been encountering “heavy fire throughout the structure.” They have not released details on what started the fire or whether there are injuries.

Residents of nearby apartment complexes were seen outside, many wearing masks, as smoke spread about the neighborhood.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
