Heckman Earns All-Conference Honors as WKU Closes Out Competition at C-USA Championships – WKU Athletics

CONCORD, N.C. – Savannah Heckman earned Second Team All-Conference honors as WKU Cross Country closed out competition at the C-USA Championships at Frank Liske Park on Saturday morning.

Heckman placed 14th on the women’s side with a time of 21:42.3 in the 6k, marking the first time since 2015 that a WKU women’s runner earned all-conference honors.

“I’m proud of Savannah for making second team all-conference, it was a great accomplishment for herself and the program. I thoroughly believe Savannah will be an even more dominant and prevalent face in the C-USA on the track, but we will just have to wait and see.”

As a whole, the women’s squad placed 10th at the C-USA Championships with an average time of 23:21.1, which marks the women’s team’s best finish since 2016. On the men’s side, the squad finished ninth with an average time of 26:46.9 in the 8k, coming just five points shy of a seventh-place finish.

“It’s tough to not see our squads perform as well as we know they can and how they have in the regular season. We struggled with a lot of adversity on the women’s side, and honestly some just didn’t show up – it happens. However, I am very proud of our freshmen who stepped up on both sides to fill the voids missing, especially Mary [Dye] and Keegan [Barnette]. We will dust ourselves off and move forward to the next challenge, taking what we learned from today with us.”

For the fifth time in as many meets, Heckman led the women’s squad, placing 14th with a time of 21:42.3 in the 6k. Mary Dye also earned a top-50 finish in the meet, placing 43rd with a PR of 22:54.2.
