Hawkins Takes C-USA Bronze In 3-Meter – University of North Texas Athletics – Mean Green Sports

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Saylor Hawkins will come home from the 2022 C-USA Swimming and Diving Championships as a medalist, as she took third in the 3-meter diving finals on Thursday with a cumulative, school-record score of 322.15.

Hawkins spent much of the competition in a well-defined top three behind divers from FAU and FIU and easily cleared the threshhold on her final dive of the evening to stay on the podium and win the bronze medal.

“Saylor’s been diving strong all year, and a goal of hers has been the school record,” UNT diving coach Stephanie O’Callaghan said. “She soared past that tonight. She put together a spectacular list tonight. I couldn’t be more thrilled. It’s great to see a UNT diver on the podium and to see the team, as a whole, show up with strength and confidence.”

Hawkins led a strong UNT contingent in the event, as Brigid Krbec and Altaira Wallquist joined her in the championship final, while the team also had three divers in the consolation final: Olivia Dollar, Makaia Goemans and Mackenzie Ferguson

“I’m super proud of the divers today,” O’Callaghan said. “It’s not easy starting the week off with the 3-meter, and there’s a lot of talented athletes in our conference. They all did a really great job and some beautiful diving. I’m ecstatic to have three girls in the A final and three in the B final. It’s a lot of points for our team.”

In the pool, the UNT swimmers also had a productive night, highlighted by the final event of the night when the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Shaena McCloud, London Farris, Allison Scott and Alvena Walpole finished fourth and nabbed 34 points for the team with a time of 1:33.57. McCloud also took sixth in the championship final of the 50 freestyle in 23.15, while Farris also scored points in the consolation final. Bryanna Vasquez earned 12 points for the team in the championship final of the 500 freestyle, while Izabela Zekuciova and Jordan Gorham scored in the consolation final. Walpole also finished second in the consolation final of the 200 individual medley.

The finals will continue on Friday evening, including the 1-meter springboard, five individual swimming finals and the 400 medley relay final.
