FSU Football Schedule Release: Seminoles gets Clemson early, Miami late in ACC portion of their schedule – 247Sports

Florida State’s 2023 football schedule was released on Monday evening. The Seminoles are coming off a successful 10-3 campaign during the 2022 season and looking to take the next step as they enter their fourth year under the guidance of head coach Mike Norvell.

“There is a tremendous amount of excitement internally and externally for this season,” head coach Mike Norvell said via release. “The ACC’s new scheduling model and elimination of divisions creates exciting matchups and brings new teams on our schedule, which is great for our student-athletes and fans to experience. Our team had a tremendous week in Orlando for the bowl game, and we are looking forward to returning there for what will probably be the most-anticipated game of Labor Day weekend. Playing eight games in our home state is another great element for our team, and we can’t wait to be back in front of the best fans in the country as we continue on our climb back to the top of college football.”

The 2023 season marks the first year that the ACC will be without the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions in their new model. FSU’s three primary partners are Miami, Syracuse, and Clemson in the new 3-5-5 model. Each team will play three primary opponents annually and face the other 10 league teams twice during a four-year cycle, once at home and once on the road. All 14 schools will now compete in one division. The top two teams based on conference winning percentage will compete in the ACC Championship Game.

FSU will open the season by hosting LSU at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday, Sept. 3rd. FSU is 8-2 all-time against LSU. The Seminoles defeated the Tigers (24-23) at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La. during the 2022 season. The two teams last met in the Sunshine State in 1990, with FSU winning (42-3).

Coming off of their neutral-site game with LSU and on a short week, FSU will return to Tallahassee for their home opener against Southern Miss on Saturday, Sept. 9th. FSU is 14-8-1 all-time against the Golden Eagles. The two teams last met in 2017, with FSU defeating Southern Miss (42-13) at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La. Southern Miss last traveled to Tallahassee in 1996, with FSU winning that game (54-14).

The middle eight games of FSU’s schedule are all against ACC opponents. FSU will host Duke, Miami, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech, while traveling to face Boston College, Clemson, Pitt, and Wake Forest. Those eight games come in a span of nine weeks, with FSU’s bye week mixed in.

FSU will travel to Boston College on Sept. 16th for the third time in the last four meetings between the two teams. FSU is 15-5 all-time against BC. The Seminoles hosted the Eagles in 2022 and defeated them (44-14). The prior two meetings, 2021 (26-23) and 2019 (38-31) were victories for FSU at Alumni Stadium.

FSU will look to end a seven-game losing streak to Clemson this season when they travel to Death Valley in Clemson, S.C. on Sept. 23rd. The Seminoles still hold a 20-15 advantage in the series. FSU last won in 2014 (23-17) and last won at Clemson in 2013 (51-14).

FSU will have their bye week on the weekend of Sept. 30th.

FSU will host Virginia Tech on Oct. 7th, which will be family weekend. The Seminoles are 23-13-1 against the Hokies all-time. FSU last hosted VT for the opener during the 2018 season, losing to the Hokies (24-3).

FSU will meet Syracuse for the 16th time in program history on Oct. 14th. The Seminoles are 13-2 in their 15 prior meetings with Syracuse. The Seminoles have won the last three meetings, including a victory (38-3) last season at Syracuse and a victory (33-30) in Tallahassee during the 2021 season.

The Seminoles are 30-9-1 all-time against the Demon Deacons, but have lost the last three meetings. FSU last won against Wake Forest at home in 2018 (38-17) and at Wake Forest in 2017 (26-19).

FSU will travel to Pitt for the first time in a decade to open their final month of play on Nov. 4th. FSU has a 4-6 record all-time against Pitt. The Seminoles and Panthers last met in Pittsburgh during the 2013 season, with FSU winning (41-13). The two teams have met just once since that game, in 2020 when FSU hosted and lost to the Panthers (41-17).

FSU continues their annual rivalry with Miami in their final ACC game of the season on Nov. 11th. FSU trails UM, 35-32, in the all-time series.
